Kitchen Bunshokan

A blend of Showa-era retro vibes and a modern pop sensibility.

Iwata Design Studio designed the logo, shop cards, and various graphic tools for Kitchen Bunshokan, a Western-style restaurant (yoshoku-ya) located in Shinbashi. Founded by an owner and a chef who both hail from Yamagata, the restaurant's name is a play on words: it references the "Bunshokan," a historic landmark in their prefecture, while incorporating characters from their respective names (文 and 翔).
The key color is green. The design blends a "Showa-era retro" atmosphere with a modern, pop sensibility.

About the Logo

The logotype is constructed using only vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines. The logo mark features the silhouette of the Bunshokan building integrated with illustrations of a knife, fork, and beer—straightforwardly communicating that this is a place where guests can enjoy Western cuisine alongside a drink.

Corporate Logo and Business Card Design

We also handled the logo and business card design for tam phase, the operating company of Kitchen Bunshokan. In this design, the ascenders and descenders of the letters p, h, and t are sliced by a diagonal line representing a "phase." By utilizing negative space (the empty areas around the letters), the design makes the "cut surface" of the phase visible.
