映画「チロンヌㇷ゚カムイイオマンテ」

表裏を成す生と死

キタキツネの魂を送る、アイヌの祭祀「チロンヌㇷ゚カムイイオマンテ」。1986年、大正時代から実に75年ぶりに行われたこの祭祀を記録したのが映画「チロンヌㇷ゚カムイイオマンテ」（監督：北村皆雄）です。アイヌの人たちですら、今ではほとんどが知らない幻の祭祀。時間の奥に眠るアイヌの世界観を捉えたこの貴重な映像記録が、35年の歳月を経た2021年、2Kレストアされドキュメンタリー映画としてまとめられました。
映画公開にあたって、岩田デザイン事務所がパンフレット、WEBサイト、チラシ、試写状など各種グラフィックツールを制作しました。

Film: Chironnup Kamuy Iomante

Life and Death as Two Sides of the Same Coin

Iomante is an Ainu ritual in which the spirit of a Ezo red fox (chironnup kamuy) is sent off. The film Chironnup Kamuy Iomante (directed by Minoru Kitamura) documents the ceremony held in 1986—the first in 75 years since the Taisho era. Even among the Ainu today, this ritual is scarcely known. Capturing a worldview long dormant in time, this rare footage was restored in 2K and re-edited into a documentary film in 2021, 35 years later.
For the film’s release, Iwata Design Studio produced the full range of graphic materials, including the brochure, website, flyers, and preview invitations.

生と死の関係

The Relationship Between Life and Death

生者＝送るもの（祭祀を司る長老）と、死者＝送られるもの（キタキツネ）。表裏を成した生と死をキービジュアルにデザインを展開しています。パンフレットは表紙と裏表紙で長老とキタキツネのカラー／モノクロ関係が反転し、生と死の関係が転倒する仕掛けとなっています。

The living—those who send off the spirit (the elder who presides over the ritual)—and the dead—those who are sent off (the fox). The design develops around this duality of life and death. On the brochure’s front and back covers, the elder and the fox appear in reversed color and monochrome, visually inverting their relationship.

読み物としての文字組

Typography as Reading Experience

民俗学の重要な読み物にもなっているパンフレット。スチール写真を大きく使いビジュアルで見せるページづくりをしつつ、あくまで読み物として、写真とテキストの領域を切り分け読みやすい文章レイアウトにしています。

The brochure also serves as an important ethnographic text. While large still images create strong visual impact, the layout clearly separates photographs and text, maintaining readability and emphasizing its function as a serious piece of writing.
