胴元たちのアーカイブ：闘鶏の文化史

「闘鶏」をテーマにした企画展。動物愛護の視点、賭博という裏社会的な性格から今消えゆこうとしている闘鶏の世界。かつて胴元としてならしたお年寄りたちに話を伺い、資料をお借りし、概要をまとめた、ちょっとした民俗資料展的企画です。この展示で、ポスター制作はじめ、パネルデザイン、紹介文の執筆、監修を岩田デザイン事務所が行いました。

Special Exhibition: "Cockfighting"

The Bookmaker’s Archive: A Cultural History of Cockfighting

This exhibition explores the world of cockfighting—a culture now on the verge of extinction due to modern perspectives on animal welfare and its historical association with the criminal underworld and gambling.
Acting as a small-scale folk-history archive, the exhibition features interviews with former organizers (bookmakers) and curated historical materials. Iwata Design Studio was responsible for the overall direction, including poster production, panel design, copywriting, and supervision.

About the Poster

一方の相手が死ぬまで戦う軍鶏（シャモ）の凄まじさをグラフィック化しています。血飛沫はコーヒーを紙に吹き付け、色調変換して作っています。

The graphic captures the sheer ferocity of the Shamo (gamecock), which fights relentlessly until its opponent is dead. To create the "blood splatter" effect, we sprayed coffee onto paper and digitally adjusted the color tones to achieve a raw, visceral look.

Writing the Commentary

主役となる軍鶏、彼らが生来にして持つ過剰な戦闘性、その攻撃手法をはじめ、賭博と絡んできた歴史など、闘鶏の背景を知るための改題を岩田デザイン事務所が執筆しています。

To provide a deeper understanding of the exhibition's context, Iwata Design Studio authored the explanatory commentary. These texts cover:
* The innate, extreme combativeness of the Shamo.
* Specific fighting techniques and styles.
* The complex history of cockfighting and its deep-rooted ties to gambling culture.
