Nawanoren
Carrying Forward the Memory of the Showa Era, Connecting Local Vitality
Nawanoren in Kisarazu is a casual izakaya specializing in robatayaki and tempura, built around the concept of a “Hyakunen Izakaya” — an izakaya intended to last for 100 years. Iwata Design Studio handled the logo and overall graphic design, including lanterns, paper lamps, and shop cards.
Originally, this location housed a Showa-era casual bar called Akachōchin. After it closed, Gohan Create, which had been consulted by the owner about future use of the space, decided to take over the establishment. The interior paper lanterns and the lively U-shaped counter remain as they were. This project represents a form of inheritance that is both old and new—transforming Kisarazu’s Showa-era memories into present-day vibrancy and connecting the local community.
About the Logo
Inspired by the legend of Shōjōji, the motif features a tanuki, also the mascot of Kisarazu City. The tanuki is designed in modular parts—head, ears, body, arms, legs, and tail—allowing for recombination. By rearranging these elements, the character can transform into various scenes: a tanuki pouring drinks, a tipsy tanuki peering into an empty sake bottle, or a robatayaki chef tanuki holding a large rice paddle.

行灯
Paper Lanterns
The lanterns from the previous establishment were retained, with only the washi paper design renewed. Various lanterns hanging throughout the interior feature three different tanuki variations, creating a lively atmosphere characteristic of a traditional casual izakaya.
